Dear CHS parents and families,

As you may know, the 2017 FUHSD College Fair is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 21 at Fremont High School. While the District is excited to be able to continue to provide this valuable informational event to our students and parents, we are aware of the challenge that the date poses for some of our families as it falls on Rosh Hashanah. Unfortunately, FUHSD was assigned this date by the consortium of colleges that schedules college fairs throughout the state. The District did immediately request another date, however with hundreds of events being scheduled each year, we were unable to secure an alternative date and time. The only other option available was for a date in November, which would have been far too late to support our families in getting the critical information they need.

Below we have provided information on several local and online college fairs which are open to the general public and which may be of interest to you and your student(s):

Sept. 25, 2017

The Big Virtual College Admissions Fair

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST

To register: https://collegefair.thebigvirtual.com/national-online-college-admissions-fair-high-school-counselor-registration-and-information

Oct. 8, 2017

NACAC Fall 2017 Silicon Valley STEM College and Career Fair

Santa Clara Convention Center

Exhibit Halls C & D

5001 Great America Parkway

Santa Clara, CA 95054

1 to 4 p.m.

To register: https://www.nacacfairs.org/attend/stem-college-and-career-fairs/silicon-valley-stem-college-and-career-fair

For additional information and resources, please contact your school¹s College and Career Advisor.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the conflict of the College Fair and Rosh Hashanah and we will continue to try and minimize scheduling conflicts of this nature in the future.

Your Google Account DOES NOT Graduate With You!

If you are not returning to FUHSD next year, your FUHSD Google accounts will be deactivated on June 30th.

(if you will be back next year, i.e. you are a 9-11th grader who will still be attending an FUHSD school next year, your account WILL NOT be deactivated)

If you would like to keep any work or content from your account, you must transfer or archive it.

  • To archive your fuhsd account and have it stored in a zip folder, use "Google Takeout". Watch this video to see how to use it: https://youtu.be/axOmPboi03U
  • Here are the written instructions with the link to use "Google Takeout":

In addition to archiving you account using "Google Takeout", you can try doing "Google Transfer". When this works, it is the nicest way to get your account migrated over to a personal account. There have been some issues with using it, so if you are worried that it isn't working, use "Google Takeout" too!

Here are the instructions for how to use "Google Transfer":

If you are having problems with "Google Transfer", use "Google TAKEOUT" instead or in addition. This will ensure you get your info one way or another.

See Ms. McLeod in the library BEFORE June 2nd if you have any questions or problems.

Grad Night

Please consider volunteering at Grad Night and being a part of the final send-off for the class of 2017. Please go to Volunteer Sign Up - Grad Night to review all the opportunities.   We need many volunteers to make this a successful event for our students.

Ticket sales and fundraising activities cover many of the expenses of Gad night party, but the success of the event each year is also largely due to the generosity of our community and businesses who donate, prizes, gift cards, food and beverages.  The more donations we can get, the more funds are available for entertainment and the more fun and exciting the event becomes. Parents play an important role in helping out these donations. If you have connections with local businesses which might be willing to contribute items to our grad night, or if you personally own a business and/or would like to contribute any of these items, please let us know by emailing us at chsgrad.prizes@gmail.com

Please do not solicit businesses before checking with us. We do not want to lose their goodwill by having several people approach them for the same cause. List below are just suggestions. We will take anything New that you feel that students would like to WIN at Grad night. We have donation letters with our Tax ID that we can provide to all the business that donate.

New FUHSD Board Office Hours Program

In recognition of the critical role that communication, transparency and accessibility play in the relationship between the Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD) Board of Trustees and the parents, families and community members that reside in FUHSD, the Board will be piloting an Office Hours program over the course of the next year, beginning May 2017. It is our belief that regular, open-door meetings and dialogue between the Board and members of the community will help continue to strengthen positive communication and trust between the District and the students, families and residents that it serves.

You are invited to attend our first Board Office Hours session on Tuesday, May 9 at Lynbrook High School from 6 to 7:30 p.m.  This new program will provide community members with the opportunity to find out more about the work of the Board and District, ask questions and provide valuable feedback. Trustees Jeff Moe and Roy Rocklin will be in attendance at this first Board Office Hours session. Please view the attached flyer for more details, or visit www.fuhsd.org/boardofficehours

Hey Cupertino!!

Are you involved in school activities like clubs, dances, sports, rallies, homecoming, powderpuff, or international week? Want to take your involvement to the next level and serve as a leader for these activities on campus?

ASB Leadership is a student-led 3rd period class at Cupertino which plans, organizes, and executes many of the events and school activities on campus. ASB leaders are leaders in fun! Being a member of ASB allows you to participate in some of the inner workings of our school and develop planning and communication skills while making the school a better place for everyone.

Though a relatively laid back class, ASB leaders are held to a high standard by their peers and have many responsibilities which they are expected to complete.

Written application consists of 3 parts, all of which can be found here: ASB Application Forms http://www.cupertinoasb.com/forms

1. Paper form with parent's signature

2. Online Candidate Information Form

3. Online Application Responses

Written application is due by Thursday, April 6th, at 3:00pm. ASB officer candidates will also be offered an interview following submission of the written application.

Please consider applying if you want to take part in this incredible school community!

Dear Students and Parents,

The library computer lab is going to be closed for the first 2 weeks of January because we are getting new computers.

During this time, students will be able to check out Chromebooks from the library to use during lunch and brunch or their open class periods, but remember, there are only 20 Chromebooks and the Chromebooks are not able to print.

If students need to print, they will be able to use the Mac Lab, and during tutorial, they can use the Computer Lab 307.

Please plan accordingly, and remember to print your work out before the day it is due.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is the only time available for putting in the new computers. Please bear with us.

Due to our ongoing campus construction, student parking is now limited to the pool lot. In the pool lot, half the pool side row is reserved for staff parking only.

Any student parking in the Staff Parking Lot, the Band Parking Lot, or the reserved Staff Parking in the Pool Lot will be ticketed by Code Enforcement and may receive a school discipline consequence.

Construction is impacting us all; thanks for being patient and arriving early to avoid parking issues.

Cupertino High encourages students to wear school-appropriate costumes for Halloween on October 31st.  Be creative and have fun--but stay within the following guidelines:

* Costumes must not include any reference to drugs, alcohol or violence

* No fake weapons should be part of the outfit.

* Costumes should provide sufficient coverage.  Overtly "sexy" costumes are not appropriate for school.

* No masks the disguise or cover the face

* No clown and/or creepy clown costumes

*  Finally, costumes should not use stereotypes of one's own or another culture to create a look.

Schools that offer “competitive athletics” must annually post data about the gender makeup of their teams and their student participation. This requirement is found in Education Code Section 221.9, which defines “competitive athletics” to mean sports where the activity has coaches, a governing organization and practices, competes during a defined season, and has competition as its primary goal.

By June 30 of each school year, starting in 2016, each school must make the following information available on its website:
        •  The total enrollment of the school, classified by gender,
        •  The number of pupils enrolled at the school who participate in competitive athletics, classified by gender, and,
        •  The number of boys and girls teams, classified by sport and competition level.

See attached chart for this information for Cupertino High School for the school year 2015-16.

Student drivers,

I just placed the 2nd reminder on cars in both the pool and band parking lots about parking permits. If you park on campus, you are required to have a permit. Permits are available for purchase in the ASB office.

This will be my LAST warning, as I will call code enforcement next week to ticket cars without permits.

In addition, it is very difficult to monitor the visitor spots, but I am kindly asking all of you to respect the visitor spots in the pool lot. Please refrain from parking in those valuable spots.

Thank you,

Mr. Walczak

Dear Cupertino parents,

The Fremont Union High School District is gathering feedback about student experiences and lifestyle habits related to school by surveying all students in grades 10 – 12, their parents, and all staff.

The defined problem being investigated is that: “Students struggle with school-life balance, stress, and sleep deprivation.” Your input is essential to our district and we appreciate your thoughtful responses.

This survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

All responses will remain anonymous.
The survey is provided in English, Spanish and Mandarin.
Summary results will be shared with students, staff, and parents in January 2017.

The Community Taskforce on Student Wellness will make recommendations to the FUHSD Board of Trustees based on responses to this survey.

Please click on the link below to complete the survey.

Thank you so much for your participation,

Community Taskforce on Student Wellness
