Ms. Tracie Johnson: Biography
I have had a passion for woodworking all of my life. As a child I remember making towers out of building blocks, and forts out of salvaged wood. In junior high I made a chair, a jewelry box, and tried woodturning. In high school I made a step ladder, a waterbed frame, and a bathroom medicine cabinet. When I was in junior high I helped my dad reroof our house, and worked on the houses that he renovated and "flipped" in the 70's. One of my "get through college" jobs was working as a carpenter for 5 years.
I came to CHS already having had 2 careers, a B.A. degree in Art Education, and the lifelong desire to teach high school. Because of my work experiences and education I am a strong advocate for "project-based learning". Through woodworking I hope to strengthen students abilities to problem-solve, work independently, collaborate, create, and "think outside of the box".
